About the position

We are looking for a Buyout Impact Associate, with placement in Munich. The right candidate for this position has a top-tier business background and a strong commitment to leveraging expertise in deploying capital to companies that address societal challenges. 

Trill Impact is an established Impact House with around EUR 1.4 billion in assets under advisory management across its Buyout, Ventures and Microfinance strategies. We seek to invest in businesses with the potential to deliver environmental and social impact, while generating competitive financial returns. We focus on measurable impact potential, related to prioritized issues for the planet and society and with underserved target groups, where the target business can contribute one or several of the SDGs.

Trill Impact's overarching impact themes; Sustainable Planet, Healthy People and Resilient Society, form the foundation for all our investment strategies. These three themes, supported by key megatrends, address the ambitions stated by the 17 SDG's. 

As a Buyout Impact Associate, you will be an integral part of the Impact Team, which consists of six professionals based in Munich and Stockholm. The team works closely with the Investment teams throughout the investment lifecycle, supporting subsector research and target prioritisation, commercially aligned impact due diligence, impact-driven value creation, and impact-oriented support ahead of exit. The role will be focusing primarily on Trill Impact's Buyout strategy.

Example of responsibilities: 

  • Develop proprietary impact theses that inform where to deploy capital (i.e. subsector deep dives, target prioritization, impact-driven screening)
  • Run commercially oriented, rigorous impact and sustainability due diligence that connects to other investment workstreams
  • Contribute to Investment Committee materials and engage directly with Investment Committee discussions
  • Engage with portfolio company management’s to support their impact value proposition and identify impact-driven value creation opportunities (i.e. go-to-market strategy, product development, branding/positioning, market development, etc.)
  • Drive impact and sustainability workstreams in portfolio companies, including establishing impact measurement and management practice (including sustainability) with practical tools and in depth knowledge

Experience and qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should have/be the following:

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in top-tier management consulting, private equity, or transaction advisory. You've thrived in high-paced, high-stakes environments and are ready to apply that rigor to impact investing
  • Academic background in business, finance, economics or related fields
  • Intrinsic motivation to support businesses that adress environmental or societal challenges. (Previous experience with impact and sustainability is an advantage, yet not required).
  • Track record of translating complex frameworks and concepts into clear and actionable business recommendations, also under time pressure  
  • Comfortable with context-switching across multiple workstreams, stakeholders and geographies simultaneously
  • You are a proactive self-starter, and hungry to drive professional excellence in the team and wider organization, with a history of taking on responsibility , and delivering beyond your role
  • Fluent in English and German, both written and verbal
